Review: iPhone CAZE Zero 5 Case
When I first read that the Zero 5 was the world’s thinnest case for the
iPhone 4, I was a little skeptical. Actually, I was tremendously
skeptical. Companies always like to over emphasize their accomplishments
and when you end up being swayed by it, you get a third rate case.
Having said this, I was greatly mystified when I received this case. The
iPhone CAZE Zero 5 case is truly one of the slimmest cases on the
market.
Box Contents:
- Case
- 2 Rear Film Protectors
- Screen Protector
- Wallet Size Stand
Everything you get in the box.
Design Aspects:
When I first opened the Zero 5 Box, I thought the product was
missing. Once I realized that Caze didn’t send me an empty box, I was
pleasantly surprised to find that the case was indeed very thin. At that
moment, believing the case was the world’s thinnest became reality to
me. The case measures at 0.5mm, which is actually larger than the side
of a nickel!
The edge of the iPhone and the casing.
If you have no sense of measurement like me, then the picture can
tell you exactly how thin the Zero 5 truly is. You’ll barely notice the
case at first glance, but you can sure feel it when you grip the phone,
that’s not to say that is a negative characteristic.
The Zero 5 was designed to make your iPhone look like it’s naked.
Since the case does come in various colors like pink and blue, this
illusion can not happen if you don’t order the transparent case or one
that matches the color of your iPhone. The transparent case actually
makes it look like you have no case on.
Let’s get this out of the way, since this is a snap on case, you will
not get any coverage for the screen of the iPhone. The design of the
Zero 5 is quite open, which means that not many parts of the iPhone are
covered.
The spacious opening on the top and the openings for the side controls.
As you can tell from the image, the top part of the iPhone remains
exposed. The case extends past the edges, but leaves a portion past the
headphone jack to the power button bare. They probably left it open for
ease of installation and access. On the side, adequate space is left
open to control the mute button and volume rocker. Additionally, a CAZE
logo is embedded in the lower half of the opposite side of the case.
Bottom view of the case.
Again, the case leaves open space on the underside of the device.
However, this is understandable since full access to the 30-pin dock
connector is needed for charging and sync, while covering the speakers
would muffle the audio.
Durability:
This case is made of Swiss Grilamid TR-90, which is a type of
plastic. Caze claims it to be shatterproof and it does seem that way
from my light tests. If you happen to bang against something while using
the phone, the case can withstand the shock. However, you will get very
little to no protection if you happen to drop your phone and this is
due to the case being made out of plastic and it being so thin. Most of
the iPhone is left open, besides the back and sides; exactly what I
expected this type of case to be.
Since the top is left wide open, you can expect the top of the iPhone
to get scratches or any damages that would have happened without a
case. This is not to say that the case will give absolutely no
protection, the edges of the case can act as a minor barrier between
surfaces and the iPhone itself.
Value for the Buck:
To start off, you get quite a few accessories alongside the case,
such as, a screen protector, two film protectors for the back of the
iPhone, two micro fiber cloths with the protectors, and a wallet size
iPhone stand.
The included iPhone stand.
The stand itself retails for $9.90 and Caze provides it for free with
the purchase of the case. It’s a neat little throw in and works as
intended; I’m actually using it right now. I worry about how long the
flaps will last because it seems you can only fold them so many times.
Closing Statements:
The Caze Zero 5 has a very plain design since its aim is to appear
invisible to onlookers. This case is a must-have for buyers that intend
to show off the iPhone 4’s elegant design while still guarding the
device from minor damage.
